Thomas, Norman (Mattoon)
(20 nov. 1884, Marion, Ohio, EE.UU.–19 dic. 1968, Huntington, N.Y.).

Reformador social y político estadounidense. Fue ordenado ministro presbiteriano y ejerció como pastor de la iglesia de East Harlem de Nueva York. En 1918 ingresó al Partido Socialista y abandonó su labor parroquial para ser secretario de la pacifista Asociación de reconciliación. Colaboró en la fundación de la American Civil Liberties Union y fue codirector de la Liga por la democracia industrial (1922–37). Fue candidato del Partido Socialista a gobernador (1924), a alcalde de Nueva York (1925, 1929) y a presidente de EE.UU. (1928–48), y fue jefe del partido a partir de 1926. Terminada la segunda guerra mundial, en su calidad de presidente del Consejo mundial de posguerra, abogó por el desarme nuclear.
